Proscastination…

30 July 2009 by gguerini

Well, I definitely hate this word: procrastination. Unfortunately it’s still part of my vocabulary and I’m trying hard to change it. The good thing is in the past few months I figured out that I’m changing. And I’m trying to work on these small things that I don’t like about myself.

I created a personal blog in the beginning of this year to talk about my trip around the world but I haven’t wrote more than 3 posts. Now I decided to make it more “official” and I registered a new domain name Facing My World and I promise you I’ll write here more frequently.

In the past 6 months, I’ve passed through the USA, England, lived in Milan (Italy) for 3 months, went to Ireland and Scotland. Right now I’m in the middle of my Middle East trip. There are a lot of things happening and this experience has been incredibly good and different. I can’t wait to share some of these with you.

I already have a few posts written and soon I’ll put them here.

Let’s make it work.

The start of a new jorney

Puerto Madero - Buenos Aires, Argentina
Buenos Aires – Where it all began

Better late than never

I should have started this blog more or less a year ago when I moved from São Paulo, Brazil to Buenos Aires, Argentina. During this period I’ve always found an excuse to leave it for later, but I think it’s a good moment to start it for good. My goals for this site are to share the experiences I have been living, my views and opinions from different cities and countries that I’ve been passing through and to stay in touch with friends, family and other people in the same situation: traveling and discovering the world.

A brief summary of what motivated me to start this journey

I started working with technology when I was 14 years old and since then I’ve never stopped. Ten years later I realized that I was doing the same things every single day and from deep inside of me something was asking for something new. Exactly 12 months ago I decided to change things in my life and it was natural that my first big decision was to quit my job in a big international IT company. Also I decided to travel the world for a while and work as a freelancer. Through the years I’ve learned how to manage my money and I always saved a little bit, which helped me to afford this need. The city chosen was Buenos Aires and after 7 months living there I can say that the experience was excellent, incredible, rich and the best thing I could have done.

Several factors contributed to this experiment to be successful. For the first time I left home to live by myself and although I’ve been raised with freedom and independence by my parents, it was a significant change. I learned to deal with very little money (when you need to live by yourself with only little money , you will understand what I’m talking about) and to value the simple things in life. I’ve met new places, cities, countries, cultures and different people, and most importantly, provide value to all that I ever had. Furthermore, I had several situations (read: problems and difficult moments) than in the end helped me to become more mature and prepared. Remember, when you see the world for their own good and bad things happen. Always!

In short, several things happened in the past few months but the idea now is not to look at this “past”, but rather focus on things that are happening now and that will happen soon. Without any doubt, comparisons will be made and discussions will be considered based on the experiences I’ve had, and this is a good moment to understand a bit more of what has happened. But what really matters is now.

But what is it now?

Now means to continue traveling and experiencing what the world and the life can offer you. I’d like to know other countries and cultures and focus on my freelance carrier as a web developer. Whether or not, this is what allows me to keep traveling. The first stop will be in the state of Arizona, United States, for few weeks and after that another few weeks in England. After this mini vacation, I’ll move to Italy for three months. After that I don’t really know but the idea is to go to Spain. During this period, I’ll definitely travel within Europe (and why not other places?) and enjoy a bit of the spring / summer. Despite of having a more or less defined route, I am always open to change something. If I see other opportunities and new directions, I will not think twice. What counts here is to move forward.

I’ll use this site to aggregate all material produced in this journey that includes photos, videos and anything else that appears. I’ll also keep my Twitter, Flickr and Facebook always updated. Welcome to my site!
